    Default Mid Priced Glycerin Soaps

I've tried SRD soap. MamaBear advertises theirs as 20% glycerin. Anyone know how the cushion, glide & moisturizing of MamaBear soaps compares to the SRD soaps ? Are they about the same ?

I find them fairly equal, but prefer mamabear for the broad array of scents. If I were to choose it would be that mamabear fairs slightly better in most aspects, but it is a slight difference and as such is susceptible to subjectivity.

A bit of a detour but this one is tough to beat at any price. Super slick, a wonderful glycerin soap, no, not high end by any means but well worth your time.
Amazon.com: Van Der Hagen Glycerin Shave Soap, 2.5-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 12): Health & Personal Care

While I can't speak for specific glycerin content (other than the fact that the soap contains glycerin), I've also had some very good shaves with The Shave Den soap

that VDH soap i buy at walmart for $1.50 and i find it works well.... i do take and put it into a sealable "tupperware" bowl and pour ~5-6 drops of glycerine on top then nuke it for ~10 secs in the microwave then give it a bit of a stir with a swizzle stick and pop it in the fridge for a few to harden up........

I've tried VDH. I found it to be 4 times better than Williams, but only 1/2 as good as SRD. I liked the SRD soap about as well as Poraso/Bigelow cream - even though Bigelow had more cushion, and SRD had more glide.

Mostly, I'm trying to find out if MamaBear soap is different enough from the SRD soap that it's worthwhile to pay for shipping - versus just order some more SRD next time I order some razor stuff. The scents don't matter to me, since I order unscented anyway.

I do find that if I mix Bigelow cream and VDH soap about 1/2 and 1/2, and add about 1/2 a teaspoon (20-30 drops) of glycerin, mash the soap up with my fingers, and stir everything all together into a frosting like consistency - then I get a really great "uberlather type" cream that fit's into the SRD soap case. BUT, I figure - why bother, just buy better soap !

The link is NOT VDH Deluxe it is VDH Glycerin (I've not located it anywhere locally for a long time) it's kind of an amber clearish color.

I picked up the soap sample's from SRD a month or so ago. I had a little WoolFat soap left so I put the sample sliver in my wool fat milled soap. Works out very, very good. I get the moisturising effect from the wool fat with a nice subtle scent from the SRD sample soaps along with the velvety easy to whip up dense lather you get from the glycerine soap. I have tried a lot of soap and while SRD does not have a million scents like mama bear or TGQ what they do carry is very good. Especially the sandalwood.
