Making canned foam "tolerable"

Okay, I'm almost ashamed to admit this...

For those occasions when time is of the essence and I don't have time to work the Musgo in the scuttle like a butter churn:

Keep a vinegar shaker of baby oil next to the scuttle. Shake a teaspoon or so of oil into the scuttle, add a dollop of canned foam (I have Barbasol on standby) on top of it, and work it together with your brush. (Dip your brush in piping hot water shake out the excess, and you'll get a warm lather.)

It turns the canned foam into a silkier, creamier mix. Very suitable for a "quickie," IMHO.

I too keep a can of Barbasol around and occasionally use it. I've never really been discriminatory about the canned foam, only the gooey gel crap. Nice tip on using some baby oil to cut with the foam. When I use it I add vitamin E oil. Works the same.

It seems to me most creams lather up so quickly I don't see any time savings using a can of goo.

Sometimes when I'm in a hurry, I have this impression that it's 'wrong' to 'waste' my more expensive soaps and/or creams on a shave during which I won't have a chance to 'appreciate' them. Certainly this is superstition because I'm not running short on any them. I like having fallback positions like yours in that instance, though.

Jimbo7, I can relate to what you say about wanting to have the time to savor the good stuff. If I'm going to churn up a good Musgo lather, I'd really like to have the time to steam it in with a hot towel and enjoy the experience.

Musgo seems to take quite a bit of elbow grease for me to get a good quantity of lather. I'm going to try Proraso next; maybe I'll see different results with that.
