I had a puck of it which after 2 years or so developed a foul odor. I'm careful these days to let it dry well before putting the cover on so I haven't had that issue again.
If there is blue on it I would say it's mold.

To hazard a guess, it is mold. Mold will grow on almost anything organic that is somewhat moist. Was it stored in a container with a tight lid or in a humid location? My MWF is stored in an open top ceramic ramkin and it shrinks and cracks when left unused for several days.
My only complaint with MWF was the shrinkage. I paid the extra for the super cool ceramic container with the retro printing on the lid. The puck shrunk and I have to hold it with my thumb when I'm loading the brush to keep it from spinning. The other thing is lathering. I've always had a hard time getting a lather with MWF. I have had to work harder. That may say more about my lathering ability than it says about MWF ..... dunno.
well i dont know much but what i have read on here is that mwf is awesome stuff! but a huge problem can accure when you live in a area with really hard water. lots of posts on srp about mwf and hard water. i would look there first. other than that i know nothing lol
Shrinkage can lead to spinning in the bowl. I use A container a bit smaller than the puck and shave the puck to a jam fit. I save bits of the previous puck to jam in the space between puck of MWF and container when needed to tighten things up. Soak the bits to soften them and add them after using the MWF so it is soft. I am an avid user and keep one or two fresh pucks on hand.
Jimmy,
You can always grate it and mold it to the container, at least it'll stop spinning. I have the cool ceramic container too and that's what I did. I don't get great lather out of MWF either, so don't feel bad, and I know it's me, not the fat. I wind up Uber'ing it with Musgo real and a few drops of glycerin...That's Glen's "Lanolin overload" Works fine, lasts a long time...
"Significant Shrinkage, like a frightened turtle"
Shrinkage? Significant Shrinkage you say? I guess that could be a problem but hey, I thought we were talking about soap here.
I might be wrong, but I was under the impression that soap, when stored (when) dry does not go bad, for a very, very long time.
It might be the bowl like someone mentioned, if you dry it properly I guess you definately have nothing to worry about.
I had a puck of MWF go bad once. Got in with the wrong crowd - a young tub of TOBS Limes with a chip on its shoulder (got dropped on the edge of a sink once) - and started hanging out on the wrong side of the cabinet. We tried to stage an intervention once we realised the extent of the problem, but we all know how hard that can be when there's cracks involved. We eventually got it dried out, but it was never the same again - it just seemed to brush off all my advances and worked itself up into a lather every time I tried to get close.
Last I heard it was working at a public toilet as a urinal cake somewhere downtown. Tragic.
James.
That's has to be one of the funniest things I've read today. Thanks for the laugh James.
