Soaps Dishes - To Cover or Not to Cover...That is the question??
Hey Guys,
I recently purchased some Wool Fat soap but did not buy the Soap Dish for it, instead I purchased a glass dish from Crate and Barrel for $2.99. The only problem is that it doesn't have a "top" or cover. Is there a reason why a soap should be covered?
I know it sounds like a dumb question I just figured I would ask.
Thanks!
OC

What I've found as I kept buying more and more soaps was that I ran out of space for cups and bowls or what ever. Worse I lost track of what was in those bowls. The solution I found(copied) was to use a Surabachi for lathering in. The bottom of the bowl has fine striations that takes off just enough soap off of the dry puck. The soap stays dry and in its original packaging. Easy to store, find and remember what it is!

If I think I might forget the identity of a particular soap I just tape the soap's label to the bottom of the dish.
I actually tried that with the Wool Fat but ended up taking it off because it got wet and didn't work out too good. I have to find a way to label the soap dish because I can tell the collection is going to get big pretty fast LOL

As for a cheap container & lid, sugar bowls work really well, are very inexpensive and look good in the shave den.
Ryan, after I read your post about drying/cracking I went and looked at the Wool Fat and did notice some cracking. I also took a look at my AOS soap (which has a wooden bowl) and sure enough, no cracking.
I am going to take a look at other containers and possibly get some with covers.

Thank you for all the responses! I guess I will play it by ear but it looks like I will probably get my next couple of dishes with covers.
Thanks!!!

The poor mans soap mug cover
With shaving mugs that dont have tops, I use on old CD-R disc with some tape covering the hole and just set it on top. Easy Peezey. Its good because you can stack another soap/cream on top of it as well.
