After reading these posts I decided to give Martin de Candre soap a try. I have never used any soap with my wet shaving
always a cream junkie. I ordered a jar of the Candre from the website in the U.S. and the jar showed up today from France.
I am really looking forward to trying this and am hoping I like it because it is a big jar. Thanks to all for your input on this thread. : )
Gentlemen, I need to reiterate my thank you to all for this thread on Martin de Candre. I have shaved twice using this soap
and am a confirmed addict. Amazing stuff with a great scent.
Castle Forbes has been my long time go to line for creams. After two uses of Martin de Candre I would say they are on a very similar footing, sufficient abundance of lather, pleasing aroma from both lines. Excellent shaving cushion. I won't venture a guess as to performace per oz of cream or soap. The MDC comes in a huge jar filled right to the rim. MDC will join my line up, no question.
Whew! I thought I was going to have to go in for another purchase!
What I found amazing was the amount of lather generated with six or seven twists of my Thater brush. There is enough to share with a couple of wet shavers, the left over you can squeeze off of the brush and use to wash your laundry. Well maybe I'm overstating....but the result, for me, is formidable. Good choice, Bob.

Tom
My apologies Howard, i did order from the site Obie gave us. I never gave the location a second thought.
Traditional soap factory Martin de Candre: Good quality shaving soap with generous foaming
PM me your mailing address Howard and I will get some off to you my friend. Then you can decide. The ordering is no issue and the shipping was very prompt.
Hey, not a problem. I thought they had finally got a U.S. distributor and we could order with PayPal or call and order. Just don't like putting the CC.# on the web anymore!! Thanks a million for the offer though!!! :D
Howard :)
page 1 has two jars left.
I'm overstocked on MWF, well 3 anyway! I do look forward to trying the MdC though.
Today I added some unscented shaving
Cream to my MdC for a superlather goodness.
page 1 they have MDC in stock ..
Thanks for the notice, Airportcopper! Grabbed a jar :-)
they have an unscented version...but to my nose...it smells similar to the scented version...maybe just a tad weaker....their unscented is definitely not NON-scented.
This soap never fails to surprise me. Used it again today (and it's now starting to look a lot more like summer now). This is so versatile, you can use it in any weather. The lather is completely bubble-free, sticky at the right level (so as to provide a good enough glide) and gentle on even the most sensitive skins, such as mine.
With a bit of luck, I'll never be without a puck.
Honestly, by far, it is the best shave soap I have ever used! I don't say that lightly. I have used it for months along with a multitude of other products, but it gives me a consistently fabulous shave everytime! At first the scent wasn't my favorite, but I have grown to love the minty lavendarish scent now! It won't disappoint, and if it does, you won't have a problem offloading it.
Regards,
JC
I keep seeing these threads about this soap and it is making me want to take the plunge and order some. I can only fight curiosity so long before I am going to have to order some.
Here is the site for it. shaving soap - Martin De Candre
glad to see you ordered one from page 1 shipping should be quickly so soon enough you can chime in like the rest of us fanboys.
I didn't see someone in the US was selling this stuff. I had to order some now since shipping wouldn't be as costly.
First shave with MdC tonight. Impressive. Thick lather, like Tabac, but super moisturizing and gentle on the skin. My wife comments that my face feels extra smooth & healthy. I agree. The herbal scent is very nice. The travel jar (50g) is tiny, but even the barest amount of soap on the brush makes a huge amount of lather. My experience with soap isn't too extensive*, but this is certainly my favorite so far. Thanks, SRP!

RM,
Congratulations on trying mdc. It takes courage to make changes. for you this change is well rewarded. I wasn't kidding when I said That I lightly loaded my brush with this soap. I get tons of leather that enuff to squeeze in a washing machine to do A load of laundry. Enjoy it well my friend!
Used it for the first time today was very impressed loved it.. But I may have to say here it comes gonna get tortured for this still like my Mwf better especially for half the price
SS, you can buy with PayPal here (link).
Hey Alex,
I've looked there a number of times and under their BIN button it just showed different CC's so I just never went any further. Hit the BIN this time, :o red face!! I'll wait for them to get the large size in, but Thanks!!! I will be getting it. :)
Regards,
Howard :D
Howard, it looks like they've got *one* 200g jar (without a lid), listed on the Home page. I'm a little mad, now, that I ended up with only the 50g, but you've got an opportunity there :-)
Alex, Thanks again! I think I'll wait for a lid. It's 100+ deg. here and no let up in sight. I'm on the afternoon mail route and I'd end up with a box or plastics bag of goop!! :)
Ah yes, that old familiar dustbowl.
