Hi Scuzzyman,
When you like the TOBS Sandlewood scent already now, you’ll enjoy it all day long after you’ve shaved.
It lingers in most pleasant fashion to remind you of the, hopefully, wonderful shave you had.
Sandlewood was the first real English soap I got and still enjoying it to this day!
Happy shaves!
Regards,
Paul
I like it too. I actually bought the Tobs Sandalwood bath soap, shave soap, shave cream, and Tobs Sandalwood luxury aftershave gel...The Aftershave gel is the only one I found with true staying power. You can splash water on your face hours after application, and it seems to reactivate it....
Even the Mrs. likes the bath soap.
Good stuff....
I also like the Tobs Avacado Shave Cream. I think it has a nice fresh smell to it. As far as fragrance goes, It's a love it or hate it type cream though....
I have tried one of TOBS creams and think it is an outstanding product. I got the St. James cream and while I'm not to crazy about the scent the quality of the lather makes up for it. I might try the sandalwood at some point.
Just used my new TOBS , amazing , all I got lol
I just got the TOBS coconut & rose about two weeks ago, love them both.
The Sandalwood is next.
The rose sounds awesome , my next one is grapefruit I think , any opinions on the grapefruit ?
Truefitt and Hill is another outstanding product, if you haven't tried.
Of course, Most of us old timers still feel Castle Forbes is the bench mark by which all other creams are judged.
Oh Man,,,,,, now I've gotta put Truefitt & Hill & Castle Forbes on my list. :gaah:
......should have stayed on the gunfight thread.
TOBS sandalwood is my go to after trying quite a few others. My wife loves the smell too.
If you ever want to try ALL the TOBS scents, Fendrihan has a sample pack with all of them to try. I have it and I'm loving almost all of them!!! The Sandalwood is definitely one of my favs.

To bad they're out of stock right now.
I've had a couple of their products and it's great stuff. Don't buy into the idea that they're the "lesser" of the 3 T's.....
Next month I am going to get the Eton College.
My first TOBS arrived a couple weeks ago. I got the traditional shaving soap and the St. James cream. SWMBO is not a fan of sandalwood or I would have gone for that. She seems to prefer the St. James so I take the Traditional on the road with me. I like both however I'm having a hard time with lathering on the soap. Gotta get my proportions right.
TBH, I've only tried the AS Gel, which I'd say is for extreme circumstances, lot's of irritation, etc...If you have the means, try them all. Use the gel for those bad days, and use the other's after a good shave....
I have 5 TOBS creams, Sandlewood, Coconut, Rose, Lemon'n'Lime and Jermyn st.
So far the Sandlewood is my fave, reminds me of an old time barbershop close by
in my neighbourhood.
The Rose is beautiful for a change, Coconut is a VERY lovely fragrance, Lemon'n'Lime is
good in the summer months and Jermyn st. is a bit too understated for me although
I like it for a change.
I do want to try the Shaving Shop Shaving Cream next, just to see if it will knock
the Sandlewood off the perch as my favourite indulgence.
From the start I have had no probs getting a lather and what is left over goes some way
to getting rid of my B.O. :o (under arm pre-shower treatment) waste not, want not !!
Oh dear, I've said too much :rofl2:
Just got my 12 scent sampler and I gotta say, St James is still my favourite by far!
I also must add that for how much you get, it's slightly a waste of money lol $40 for 12 tiny containers...and grapefruit wasn't even in there! Oh well, I guess that's the price of getting 12 scents at once.
Looks like I'm way behind. I love TOBS, but have only used the Lavender. So many TOBS to choose from... so little room that my wife will allow my shaving stuff to take up in the bathroom. ;)
I just placed an order for two tubs of the TOBS, one Lemon/Lime and one of the Grapefruit(two of my favorite scents) "if" it comes as its says its supposed to on Saturday(not holding my breath as this area is horrible for mail) then Im going to actually shave over the weekend just to give them a whirl.
Respectfully,
Christian
I have several of TOBS creams and they are all great. The grapefruit, I kid you not, smells like a fresh, ripe grapefruit, just cut open. I'm not joking when I say it made my mouth water when I smelled it (it smells that realistic)....I refrained from taking a bite because I'm sure SWMBO would find it odd if I were to eat shaving cream(as should she)!
I was just in London and picked up a tub of the sandalwood. I had a very difficult time not spending a fortune in the TOBS store! It was an amazing place!
I had been considering starting a thread about the TOBS Grapefruit so that my love for this cream would be forever documented. I have a lot of soaps and creams that I really like, but this one is FAR and AWAY my favorite. Great grapefruit scent...not sweet or artificial smelling in any way. I use a grapefruit aftershave gel as well (not TOBS). The scent of both lasts ALL DAY. Its amazing!
Just tried TOBS grapefruit this morning, using a sample from Maggard Razors. Amazing scent, and great lather. The first time I heard about it, I thought, "grapefruit shaving cream?" Sounds weird, but smells great.
Has anyone tried this?
Taylor of Old Bond Street Sample of 14 Scents! 1/4oz Sampler | Maggard Razors - Straight Razor Restoration, Custom Scales and Wet Shaving Products
If so, how many shaves were you able to get out of each scent?
Yes, I just got 12 cream samples from Maggard. I get 2 - 3 shaves from 1/4 oz. sample.
I just got my first tub of tobs sandalwood today. I'm newer to shaving and have only shaved with soaps. What's the main difference with getting a good lather with the cream vs the soaps?
The main difference is that creams are more user friendly. Not to say that the lather is necessarily better than that from soap, but it takes less time and the water:soap ratio is easier to hit.
BTW, congrats on finishing a tub.....a feat I've yet to achieve :rofl2:
I have the TOBS Avocado. I love it. Went to Chicago for a work conference and stopped at Merz Apothecary as they have a great selection. I was hoping to smell some of the soaps. No luck on the smelling part. I walked into the store and was overpowered with the smell. Overpowered is not really accurate. It wasn't unpleasant, but I couldn't really smell anything so I bought the avocado based on a bunch of recommendations that I read. I'm glad that I did. I'm just getting started with shaving with a shavette so in the grand scheme of things it could be crap, but I'm happy. Great lather and super slick.

I just got mine today, it smells wonderful and I don't know why but it allows me to get a closer shave and no irritation at all. This is my first shaving cream and I love the smell and the whole results I wish I would have known earlier. Maybe there are better or similar quality products out there but I simply liked Taylor Sandalwood.
I just recently bought my first tub of TOBS sandalwood and while the scent was nice I found it to be overpowering for my personal tastes. are all TOBS creams this strong? I was impressed by the lather and the glide though.
Their sandalwood scent is pretty strong, as well as unique. I've had the opportunity to smell four different company's version of sandalwood so far, and they all smell completely different. Even an aftershave and a shaving soap or cream made by the same company can all smell a bit different.
I wouldn't judge TOBS on just one of their scents, especially when they have so many. I found their sandalwood to be strong when I first smelled it as well, but it grew on me.
Try Castle Forbes Cedar Sandalwood. I have tried two tubs of it. The first was a very mellow smell. The second was really different, smells like you got a cedar bough shoved up your nose.
