The only reason I disagree with this (and normally I would not) Is the way you smell is supposed to make you feel confident, and if SWMBO is making fun of you and doesn't actually like the smell that wont increase confidence. Mine makes fun of me and says the same things but she's joking she just gives me a hard time.
W.M. nuemanns heartwood and signature 1907, get the soap and aftershaves. Your SO can thank me by PM :)
Sandalwood vanilla from mamma bears just greatnscent
RS Real shaving (mild tea tree oil scent), Nivea & their lineup, PGS Whiskey (earthy scent), L'Occitane, DR Harris Arlington (citrusy). Or you could just ignore her poking fun and tell her that grandpa must have been pretty cool dude with good taste, I doubt she'll disbute that OR maybe she will......you never know
If you are really concerned for her opinion on scent, pick up a sample pack and have her find some scents she likes. SRD has a cheap sample pack of soaps. Helped me in finding scents I like.
I agree with all those who have suggested to get sample packs and see what she likes, but you've definitely got to like it yourself. The problem I've found is that every company doesn't have samples and those who resell sample packs don't carry everything. So, I've just decided to use neutral scents that smell "clean" and use an aftershave/cologne which is something much easier to find samples of. I use Mitchell's Wool Fat, which unless you like dirty clothes smell then you'll love it and its not persistent... D.R. Harris Windsor shaving soap is similarly mild scented and doesn't last long or interfere with an aftershave or cologne.
That approach is fine if you're single or in the dating scene. But if you're married it's a whole other ball of wax. Like anything else in marriage you must find common ground and consensus, and "offensive" scents are not excempt from this.
But if someone is just casually dating, then I'd agree - take it or leave it.
