Read the fine print!
I bought some wintergreen oil to try on a new batch of shaving soap. Everything went fine until I put the oil into the mix. The wintergreen caused a chemical reaction and the mixture started setting MUCH FASTER than normal. I barely managed to mix it all and get it into the molds. I popped them out of the molds this morning and they've got air pockets in them from where they set up so fast.
I read the bottle carefully and found out that the oil was a synthetic (a.k.a. artificial). The soaps smell great but look like molded piles of snot or brain in some areas. I'll know in 7 weeks how they shave. If the soaps do well I'll likely send them out as freebies to those who don't care how their soaps look.
I should have carefully read the bottle beforehand. I don't even know if wintergreen comes solely from a plant or if it's a mixture of things. Regardless, I should have been cautious about a synthetic material.
They smell really good though.
