    Default Making a strop

Ok, so my strop did not come today. So I bought a 3" by 24" with leather.

    Hope it is good leather

Now I am trying to flatten it out and to deside if I am going to make a hanging or glued strop. I am leaning towards a big glued one so I can use it in the sofa. Hopefully my vintage strop will come next week.

Have used some oil and put it under some books, hope it helps. Also read that you can use a hot iron?

The link above is what I did for making my own strop. That leather should be fine, at least it looks fine to me. I don't use heat when treating the leather, but I would definitely get some leather dressing to make it nice and supple and increase the drag too (if thats what you want). I prefer my home made strop to my ones that I have ordered. Good luck and happy shaves

    Glue warning:
I had the idea to use some Silicon to glue leather down, as I had an old tube in the shed.
It was old and would not set. It became a mess.
I like silicon, but it can expire on you.

I used a couple of old floor planks I had lying around.
I do not know if I did myself any favors compare to purchasing a strop, as I have nothing to compare with.

    Good luck. Jody

    Not sure

As for glue, I have contact glue for leather that I used on the strop I have paste on. Worked good. That strop is made of moose leather

Hum, used the leather on my razor. If anything it got less keen:/ Does it need to be broken in more? Used the palm of my hand for some time before using it. Don't understand this

Sounds like your method may be flawed. Keep the razor absolutely F L A T on the strop as well as the stone just to see if that helps the situation.

It's flat on the strop for sure. Think it's my gf's fault for rushing my preshave and not the strop's fault :-)

Hope to get the wood ready to glue today!
