    Default Dimond Polishing Paste

    Hi all,

I'm thinking of buying some dimond paste to put onto a hanging strop to use after honing on my 8k norton. Looking around for site in UK that sell it (which took quite a while), I found the following set of products that I was thinking of getting.

I was thinking of getting the 1 micron and 1/4 micron. I was woundering if anyone could tell me whether these products would be fine?

Also, has anyone tried Aluminium Oxide Paste on a strop?

    Thanks for any information,

    Steven

    Steve,

The .25 micron has a reputation for leaving too fine an edge. It gets delicate.

I'd go for .5 micron or maybe some chromium oxide from HandAmerican.

Dito that. The 3µ might be more useful too since 1µ & 0.5µ are so close together, but don't take my word for it. Get the opinion of somebody who's used them.

I think there must be a typo there on the 1/4 micron. It should be more like 50,000 grit. Maybe they meant 1/2 micron instead which would more closely match the grit size listed.

    Thanks for all the info.

I think I might just buy the 1 micron paste and use it on a new strop.

Just to clarify, I can use this just after my 8K norton to polish the edge and sharpen it even further?

Yes, the 1 micron is a good next step from the Norton 8K.
