Thanked: 1Stropping on drywall tape?
Anybody ever try it? You think it would work? Where would you put it in your progression?

Thanked: 4830Oh no. It requires a little mud before paint.
Drywall tape could work for stropping I suppose but it is missing the print, which I believe is an important part of the newspaper for stropping. However the inside of cereal box is suppose to work to, so I have to say try and see. I can't see it being bad. It's very inexpensive. It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Thanked: 23I don't think it would hurt anything. However where I would put it in my progression would be right after I realized my razor is not shaving and I don't have anything to strop on except a random piece of drywall tape at my disposal.

Thanked: 40LOL, it sounds like an interesting experiment. Boxertim, do you have a cheap razor (like say a Gold Dollar) to try this out on?

Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

What grit texture are you planning to apply?
The easy road is rarely rewarding.

Thanked: 247Are you talking about the fiberglass mesh stuff or the paper tape?
Personally, I'm pleased with the current honing and blade prep methods I use and the only changes I forecast might be to try more traditional methods (natural hones), so I doubt I'll be adding drywall tape to my future experiments.
Additionally, I'm not very confident that there is much uniformity or consistency in items like drywall tape that are built for totally different purposes. (Meaning one supplier may offer a totally different product (ingredient-wise) than the other, and the paper might be made from recycled materials leading to variability from one batch to the next).
