You might try less pressure, but the Latigo strops are among those with the heaviest draw.
I did try, results are good but REALLY GRABBY ! I just ordered a SRD 3" Premium I Leather Strop from you along with other items and hoping that will have less draw !?! Hope it gets here fast ! ;-) Thanks Lynn !!
I ordered with the 3" 100% Hard Pressed Wool Felt as a back strop variation along with diamond spray !
I've found, often times the sharper a razor the more draw it will have especially on the latigo so it's kind of a test.
I'm new so thank you for all information, I can't wait for morning ! I WANT TO SHAVE AGAIN ! LOL
The red Latigo has a heavy draw. SRD's Premium I will have a lighter draw than Latigo. Draw is a subjective preference. If you decide you like a very light draw, horesebutt is the way to go.
By the way, welcome to SRP. Be patient with your straight razor. There is a learning curve, but stay with it and you will see improvement as you go along.
Thank you ! I have an addictive personalty, I'm sure I'll have 1 of each ! LOL ! I have also noticed, switching from DE to SR, my lathering has got better ! It's a must with SR !
I almost ordered " The Roo " !
The bad news is that when latigo is new it has a glossy surface and the draw actually becomes heavier once broken in. If this is something that you feel you simply will not be able to get accustomed to then a different strop with a light draw might be better. However I'd recommend sticking with the latigo for awhile as it really does make a fantastic strop material. I love mine.
I sure won't deny the grabbiness - and it gave me heartburn when I started also. A bit of horse hide cured the grabbies. Then I went back to the latigo for about a year & found I was more comfortable with it. 'Used it as the daily driver for about a year & got great results. The main hassle I had was w/ the smaller (4/8) blades that could grab, flip over and slice before you realized what was happening.
Don't be surprised if you feel differently about the heavy draw in the future. For now, enjoy that SRD. Its a heckuva lot of strop for the price. 'Love mine.
I will stick with it - I actually also ordered a replacement Red Latigo strip ! The results are good, it's just got a lot of draw ! I ordered an extra strip because I'm sure I'm going to mark this one up, not yet ( knock on my head ) but I know it's coming ! ;-)
Oh dear God, you have an addictive personality? HA! you're going to be really trying to keep yourself in check here! RAD is going to get you quick. Lol
Ha ha! Yes! Good man :-)
I have an SRD Premium I and love it, I also have a red latigo which was my first strop and has served me well for about four years until I got my Premium I. I also have a SRD Roo strop which is now my normal daily strop but still love my other two
I sold my red latigo to a Sgt. in Afghanistan. Mine was anything but grabby. Didn't care for it. I am an English Bridle fan and also like horse butt which is not grabby. Many choices makes it fun.......
I recently got the SRD premium and I'm very happy with it. I currently don't prefer a heavy draw. The premium is a nice, easy going strop that my razors seem to like. If I were to do it again...I'd do it again.
