New strop and my practice razor
I got a strop to start. and started practicing on gold dollar so far no cuts but the razor is not shave ready. I'm just trying to get used to the movement before my first shave with my other razor.

what sort of strop is it? Just out of interest, you can't just tell half the story or I won't sleep

Do practice on the nylon, not the leather and use another razor. The scales on a Gold Dollar are too thick and clunky, difficult to handle.
You will only learn bad habits starting out learning to perfect stropping with that razor.
The nylon will not damage the razor and likely you will not damage the nylon.
Hang the strop from a doorknob with an 18-inch loop of para cord or shoelace. That will put the strop at waist height. Hold the razor by the corners, diagonally with thumb and forefinger. Flip by moving your thumb, like flipping a switch.
Use just enough pressure to keep the spine on the strop always flip with the spine on the strop. Ease the edge onto the strop at the flip. Do not slam it into the strop.
Forget everything you have seen on TV or movies. Strop slow and lightly. Do not strop while anyone is in the room, do not talk to anyone. Stropping takes full concentration to get all the parts working.
Remember the edge is very fragile, and so thin that you cannot see the actual edge without 1000x magnification.
Strop on nylon for a week before trying leather.
