Question about Neatsfoot oils
I got a bottle of neatsfoot oil today, and didn't notice until I got home that it is a neatsfoot compound, and is not pure.
It's Angelus brand and I belive it's for baseball gloves. The bottle says it won't rot stitching. What the bottle does not say, is what else is in the compound.
I did some reading and it looks like the most common additive is mineral oil, but wikipedia said sometimes there are strange oils added to the mix.
Just wanted to know if this would be ok to use before I slather it on my SRD Premium II strop. I would be....."disappointed", if it were to go awry.
With arson forensics getting better every day, I thought it easier to double check before I ruined a strop and had to go back to the store.

I have some neatsfoot oil from Tony Miller but I
have never used it. Are you sure your Premium
II needs oiling? Rubbing it with your hand should
be all it needs.

Neatsfoot compound usually contains mineral oil and or silicone. I would return it just to be on the safe side. Strop on petroleum products and then shaving that into my skin has caused me some irritation.
I have a premium II that I have given two heavy coats of pure neatsfoot oil and am hand rubbing everyday. It is breaking in nicely. I want to increase the draw a bit.
Again, if you can make it into atlanta some time, I will hook you up with all the neatsfoot oil you should need!

I know Lynn says the Premium strops don't need breaking in, and it IS very supple...but I'm running out of things to play with so changing up the draw may be fun.
I also have a rolls razor strop that is crumbling on the top layer, so I need to get that fixed.
