Thanked: 10Homeade strop curling in the middle during stropping. Okay?
Hi guys,
After ruining my star shaving strop by over eagerly trying to break it in, I replaced the leather with a nice piece of top grain leather from a shoe repair shop.
I fits the part, although its a little soft, its very smooth and flawless on both sides, and smells great too.
I'm just wondering, I used the D rings and pins from the last strop, and pull it tight when I strop. It seems to curl a little down the length of the strop when I have it tight. Seeing how its softer leather, the weight of the blade easily flattens in during the passes.
Is this okay, or am I dulling the edge? there isn't much pressure being used at all, but the blade is flattening the strop slightly. It seems to produce an excellent edge. I havent had the chance to shave with the new setup yet though.
Any thoughts? Man, a lot of rambling without saying much.
