Dovo Strop paste(two pack)

Not many people seem to say much about the Dovo two pack of strop paste(apart that it melts lots). One is red and one is black.
Does anybody have any experience of this, as it is the most easily available paste in the UK.
When using in combination with a norton, is the red paste for use after the 8k, or is it too coarse?
How fine is the black paste? Is it fine enough to avoid having to ship a finer one from the US?
Just not sure if this is a waste of time or not?
Any experiences shared would be appreciated.

I bought some about a month ago and used it as an experiment whilst deciding which hone to buy. I have a Crown and Sword I have cleaned up and thought I'd give the red a bash on a dead strop I could waste. Applying the stuff and getting an even spread was a pain but I got there.

Now the edge on the blade is OLD OLD OLD and I didn't expact miracles, however, before stropping it wouldn't cut any body hair but after about 60 passes on the it would remove leg hair easily. (My left arm is curiously bald at the minute...)


I did try the black on the opposite side of the strop but it was like hot butter and I think the strop was too 'shiny' to hold the paste coupled with the fact the razor needed honing I think it was an experiment too far!

I'll be buying one of TM's least expensive strops on payday and pasting it up ready for the returm of the Lynn honed main shaver!

I have this stuff and a paddle strop. Whats the best way to apply it? Should I put enough on there so the whole side of strop is a solid color or do I just work it in like this

You can use red then black and it won't do no harmand may well improve your 8k edge. this all depends how good the edge is of the 8k. If i was you i would test shave of 8k then use paste and se what you prefer its the only way you will no

Hey guys I use the dovo paste all the time.

A quick run down of the dovo paste is that the Red paste is 3-4 microns (roughly 8k) and the Black paste is 1-2 microns ( roughly 12k)

So using the Red Paste after the 8k hone really shouldn't much but could just take that edge a little father. Then you can move to the Black paste to finish. I have finer paste to use but I prefer the finish of the Black paste so I would say it is fine enough as a finisher but if you do decide to go finer it is a good stepping stone.

The Dovo paste are all slow cutters so require a fair amount of laps to get the results you want. They however leave a very smooth shaving edge.

To apply using the x's in the tutorial works pretty well. No matter how you do it give it a couple days to dry before using it. Then even when you use it you will most likely have so transfer from the strop to the blade of the paste. So keep a paper towel handy to wipe the blade off before switching between the paste.

I recommend using any paste with a paddle strop.

I got mine in today. I found it very easy to apply. I just put them in the refrigerator and drew the X's right on to my strop and worked it in. Took 2 minutes. I can see how they could be messy if they get warm.
