Anybody had experience with this place? Leather Hanging Strops
We used to see many posts about star shaving quite some time ago but don't lately. I don't know if they have changed or not but based on the previous posts I would urge caution and investigate the old threads.
Yeah if its the same place I am thinking about (the sites been spruced up a bit - though his pictures still suck lol), the guy has been around for a while.
From everything I have heard (never bought myself), its like buying a Lada. It'll get you where you want to go, but you might walk a bit being you're always parking down the way lol.
I like my 3" "Big Daddy" strop....

The strops are very good quality. I have yet to hear anything bad about the leather on the forums. The only issues I have heard have been about communication or shipping. I have the big Daddy and it has been a wonderful strop for the past three years.
You can buy a pce of very High grade strop leather for $6.00,the rest of the hardware, maybe 8 bux max,do the math.
I have a Big Daddy as well. It's a great first strop and a great value. I have since upgraded to a Walking-Horse horsebutt strop. I still use the Big Daddy to apply chromium oxide to my razors.
There have been a few threads about bad communication and things like that. As far as I know he is a one man show and had some bumpy health issues a while back. I have dealt with him a couple of times and had no issues. The strops are ok, and replacement leather is inexpensive.
I bought one. True it took awhile,,,24days from purchase till receipt of my 3 inch English Bridle strop. Said that the internet was out. That being said, The product is a solid stand up piece of work.Yes it is my first real strop. So I have learned on Star leather. Maybe one day I will upgrade, but if it aint broke why fix it?
I have beat it,nicked it,had to sand it,and it holds up.
I have one as well and I still use it. It doesn't have all the frills of the more high end ones, but it does what it is supposed to do. I changed out the wool felt for a vintage linen strop. I still use the wool felt for cleaning the edge after honing and some diamond spray on the other side. The leather is on the thicker side compared to a lot of others.
