Is your wide strop flat?
Did you use an X stroke on both strops (some folks only use it on narrow strops)?
These are what first came to my mind.
No x stoke on 3inch. It is flat no cupping
Do I need to use the linen strop every time I strop my razor? I think that it is making do a touch up more often then needed. I touchup hone on 12k once every 2 weeks and I shave every other day
It's just something you are doing different unless the strop is cupping on you.
Stick with the X pattern, even on the wider strop. It's good technique and not any harder once you've gotten it down.
I've ditched wide strops, except for one I made out of horween sheel that I'm reluctant to cut.
Narrow strops and narrow stones never develop any appreciable cup or sway. Narrow to me is around 2 inches, but the real issue is that the razor is wider than the strop (in my case).
I can see why some folks like wide strops though, and don't believe that it's a right or wrong issue.
Maybe the 2-inch strop is flexing more and giving you better contact with the edge?
