So I was stropping and let my mind wander and faster than I thought I messed up. What can I do to smooth it out?

If it is a flap you can glue it down with rubber cement. If you can find some pumice it will work to smooth is off. It kind of depends on how bad it is. You might be able to use 600 grit to smooth it but may have to go with a more coarse grit first. The object is to smooth the area. Don't get very aggressive and make sure you clean it very well in the end.

How bad and how big. Small nick a cut a chunk a nice slice. Photo will help. A search for repairing nicks should pull up plenty of info

Before the sand paper you might try just gluing and burnishing. If you sand to much you will wind up with suede. Pics would sure be nice :<0)

I've used my Wife's nail file before, works great. I then rubbed some strop conditioner into it, smoothed it right out.

Agree! Is it a tiny surface nick or a huge gouge?

like in the movie Planes Trains and Automobiles, you should be able to buff that out no problem.
Just take enough away that it does't have any hard edges, so your blade can smoothly travel over it in both directions. That's just a wee flesh wound. I would use 600grit paper and a very light touch.
    eddy79 and Raol like this.
