SRD English Bridle break-in

When breaking in my SRD English Bridle (premium IV) strop, Don at SRD just recommends a daily rubbing with my hand to break it in, even if I am not stropping that day. So just out of curiosity, how long will it take to break in the leather before the strop begins to function at its best?

By the time you can strop well it's broke in, the daily hand rubbing is good for the strop , but if your stropping right, it's doing its job right now, the oils from your hand keep the leather supple and even keeps it clean , as dust can affect your edge, but it's ready to give a great edge now, it's all up to you. I admit, I do have a lot of newbie questions coming up from a shavette. This morning after doing my post shave stropping to help dry the blade, I can tell a minor difference already compared to when I took the strop out of the package. I just have never felt a well broken in strop so I have no point of reference.

Off topic, how many people here have their autocorrect change stropping to stripping?

Strops never really get 100% broken in. It's a continuous process that goes on forever. The closest thing to a well broken in strop is one used by a barber back in the day after maybe 30 or 40 years of daily use in the shop.

Having said that a brand new quality strop still works great broken in or not. It's mostly the feel of the thing that changes.
