Default Getting water on leather strop?

I accidentally got a couple drops of water on my paddle strops, some with pastes, and some without (well actually my cats knocked over my glass of water...). There are dark splotches where the water soaked in and they aren't going away, but they no longer feel wet. Does anyone have the unfortunate first-hand experience to know if this will effect stropping results? It's only a couple drops, not soaked, so it's kinda hard to tell if there's a tactile change when going over the dark areas.

    Thanks.

Just wet the whole strop with a damp sponge or paper towel and let dry.

Not a bad idea to wipe your strop every couple weeks, with a damp towel or sponge to wipe off all the airborne dust and add a bit of moisture.

Leather is much more resilient, than most folks think, but will water stain if a single spot is wet.

I,m with Marty on this just get out a damp cloth,(I use a microfiber) and wipe the whole thing down and the spots will go away, itll all be darker then and no ill effects. I started doing this with all my strops just because of the idea of dust affecting my edge and my strops are all fine Tc

Great, will do. Didn't even think about the maintainence aspect of strops. Any conditioners you'd suggest for bare leather and linen (if linen needs to be conditioned at all)? If I dampen my compound loaded strops, do I need to reapply the compound after? Thanks!

I haven't ever used conditioners, if used right and cleaned every now and then they don't need anything more than a palm rubbing, as for reapplying paste I don't think so, wiping it down with a damp cloth wont remove the compound, once its on there its there to stay Tc
