Just scored this strop while killing time at an antique shop. I believe a good cleaning will straighten this old gal right up

nice find! especially interesting since i've been to Adrian. wonder if Sunterbuck was a store.
The oak fanned drew my interest, I see tanned and that makes sense.:D
Please post pics after it is cleaned up, it will interesting to see.
I haven't done it myself, but I saved this post 'cause Euclid440 seemed like he knew what he was talking about

Just like honing, everyone does what they do.
I am a big fan of Bick products to rejuvenate strops. Great stuff!
I started on these 2 NOS pigskins yesterday. No before pic, but were in original wrappers, stiff as a board, and covered with a powdery white chalky substance.
May have been mold, but I am not certain.
Cleaned them good yesterday with the Bick1 cleaner.
Today, slathered them with the Bick4 conditioner. Color is coming in and they are getting more pliable already. A daily treatment, both sides until I like them.

@ejmolitor37 - that's a cool find! Way to keep an eye out for shaving stuff, you never know when, where or what you may find. I bet that thing will clean up really nice, cool hardware on top too that should shine up nicely.
@sharptonn - nice pair of strops there, all you need is a little linen to go with 'em :tu
Yah nice vintage strop hardware is something to keep an eye out for, even if you come across a strop that is trashed you can it cheap just for the hardware. But in your case here everything is intact and so much the better. I'll stay tuned for the post clean up pics!
Really all I need now is conditioner I believe its as clean as its gonna get. Might buy saddle soap and try that. Trashed strop is a good idea ill keep my eye peeled. There was another in ok shape that was 2 pieces of leather no linen. Seemed odd to me.

A thing to remember is that the 'shell' is a very thin layer on the stropping side.
Don't rub through that or you may as well strop on the backside.
Thank you sharptonn, I did not know that. Like I said I used one of those magic eraser things and got no black only brown color. Actually no scrubbing just wet and wipe then wipe with dry paper towels. Maybe the "shell" is already gone?

Some pics would help.
Heck! Push comes to shove, sometimes the backside is pretty darn good! :D
(I didn't just say that! :p)

So this is post wipe down. Have it sandwiched between paper towels and a 12 pack sitting on it. Linen is soaking currently.
Yeah. It's there. I have one worn to almost that point. Slick as glass!
Time to condition it a lot and rub fire out of it with the glass bottle and the palm.

Well that is where I'm headed it appears:) thanks again

I think the only place to go. You can see around the end you got a bit overzealous trying to make the stamp stand-out. Lots of quality leather conditioner, smooth glass bottle and tons of palm.
It will get there before you know it! :D
The HD stuff seems to be the same as the Bick4.
Bick is popular with horse tack folks.

Not doubting you sir, I just wiped it no scrubbing. Maybe the eraser was a poor choice. It seems now that the surface is dry its all the same color and feel. Heck it o ughta strop something when its done :) I might have some hd leather dressing in my garage! Old stock from my wrenching days ;)

There ya go. Adding moisture, rubbing a bit at a time.

So here is post clean up. Still need conditioner for the leather. Was wondering about the waves in the linen? Can I iron those? Or should I leave it? Show side of the hardware is a bit rusty but the back looks brand new :) Thanks for looking
The strop cleaned up nicely and the hanger hardware is sweet! What did you end up doing with the wavy linen? Did you hang it to dry with weights after you washed it? Those waves might just relax and sort themselves out as you use it. Have you given it a try yet?
Nice Did You Happen To Get A Hold Of Brad,,,Ty
The Other one If You Can FB Is Gary Mcdowell He Is The Ex Mayor Of Adrian!!!!!!!!!!!!!Ty
Well I tried the linen and it actually scratched my edge. I went to my Srd strip and took care of that but I'm guessing that since I hand washed it I did not get all the oxy clean out and that is what scratched it. Also I'm now hanging it to see if those wrinkles come out. If not I may try my iron idea. Kind of a fun learning process. BTW xiaotuzi thank you, the hardware did clean up well and I love the look of it.
