Kintaka Strop = Pelican strop

Picked up this Kintaka horsehide stop likely sold by the Takagi Co., Tokyo. Noticed during my research that the Pelican Stop has the exact same bottom logo and exact hardware. Kanayama also has the same hardware. Anyone familiar with Kintaka strop and is it related to the others? The Kintaka strop will have to be cleaned up a bit but it strops nicely, just glides beautifully, no pull whatsoever. Appreciate comments form The Japanese strop experts out there! Thanks

Kintaka is also a brand for razors. I suspect they were a barber supply house brand and as such their wears were made by various OEM companies

That saying validates it's a U.S made strop made by one of the biggest strop outfits. They made the red Imp strops among many others. The rubbed out portion at the bottom will say Beat em like a certified check.

It's likely made for the Japan market.

yes it does say that. "Will beat them all like certified checks, 100% Positive Value, French Hide, 1200"

Ya, Old Kanayama stamped many of the 'certifyd' strops for retailers all over with tons of names upon them back in the old days.
The leather may be from the USA, but the strop....from Japan.

Too many examples point to the obvious, including the hardware.

So Austin...Did'ya snag that NOS one he had?

Almost bought this. Looked at it a dozen times, along with the NOS one Tom is talking about. Let us know how it feels with a razor. Glad to see someone here snatched it up.

Tom, the NOS is still out there and it does look good. Just didn't want to go that high on price. I was in the market for a quality, horsehide stop and thought this would fill the bill. Happy to clean it up. Have seen a lot of good info on the Kanayama and Pelican strops. Just figured all these must be related somehow. Glad you seem to agree. Thanks

I have a nice vintage Certifyed for a Shop Strop, it is very nice, thick ¼ inch leather, finishes nicely.

I picked up a nice Vintage Pelican, recently, with the brown washed, super soft, linen. The leather is just like my newer Kanayama, but the linen, alone, is worth the price of admission.

Yes it has some really nice linen. Will have to clean it up a good bit but it will serve nicely. Looks like quality old school linen to me.
