Thanked: 26Any experience with Griffith strops?
In another thread people have been talking about horse strops. I stumbled on this site and saw what look like some nice strops, in 2.5 and 3 inch widths:

Just curious what experience anyone's had with these?Steve

There are a bunch of outfits out there that seem to fly under the radar and no one has apparently checked out from this site. I don't know if that is indicative of something or not.
Another such place is Phoenix Artisans who seem to carry a line of lower cost items.
I guess you will have to be the guinea pig and take the bullet for us and try one of their strops. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

I've also looked at their site, not sure why I didn't go any farther than looking though.

Thanked: 26Thanks everyone!
I thought I must have missed a thread on this company but apparently not.
I may end up rolling the dice and seeing what their Horween Chromexcel horse strop is like -- perhaps a Christmas present for yours truly.Steve

Thanked: 292I think that some of the strops from Griffith Shaving are made by Matt in house. I have not purchased one, but I am thinking about it.
A few months ago, he listed a 3" wide shell cordovan strop that I really wanted, but could not afford at the time as I had some other expenses. Now he lists 2 1/2" shell only. I really want 3" to minimize the risk of nicking it with an X-stroke. He did not advertise the shell as Horween, so it may have come from another tannery.
The Chromexcel is exclusive to Horween. This is supposed to be rather stretchy leather; I do not know if this is good or bad.
If anyone does purchase one of Matt's strops, I would love to read a review. If I purchase one, I will do likewise.
Matt does offer a return policy, so if you purchase one and do not like the quality when it arrives, you can send it back for a refund.

Thanked: 60I use his Chromexcel 2 1/2 inch barbers end and love it. Never had a problem with it and have used it daily for over a year. Was never fond of wide strops.
