cro-ox / diamond spray on nylon

Hello Folks. I've been reading and trying to figure this out but can't quite seem to find my exact answer. I have the SRD 3" red latigo strap with the separate nylon strap attached. Can I apply cro-ox or diamond spray to one side of the nylon or do I need to use linen? Should I put it on the side facing the back of the leather strop or doesn't it matter (I assume it doesn't "bleed through" so I should still have one side of the nylon that has nothing on it). Which would be the best one to use the cro-ox paste or the diamond spray? I just ordered the "Norton Waterstone Starter Kit" so do I even need to worry about the spray and just use the finishing stone for a few laps etc? Thanks and have a good one.

I like to keep my linen or fabric strop component clean. If I'm going to paste a strop, be it leather, linen, canvas, or nylon, I want it to be an auxiliary strop. Daily use of paste or chrom ox might be 'too much of a good thing'.

I have the SRD felt hanger with the diamond spray and highly recommend that. I've got a HandAmerican flatbed with the magnetic base. This is cool because you can put their leathers on there or their felts with chrome ox on one or diamond paste or spray on another.

On my SRD premium 1 (luxurious strop) I've got the webbed fabric and I've left it unpasted. Works very well. I have seen Lynn post that it is very good with pastes but I would leave it clean, as I said above, if it was my only strop.

I'm on with Jimmy, if you are going to paste something, paste a seperate strop... Hell, it's so much hassle to try to use the underside of a strop for anything.

What I do is use a TM Latigo and Linen, TM Horsehide and Nylon, SRD Bridle and Webbed fabric as daily strops, I also have another strop made of TM Wool Felt (with SRD .5 Diamond spray) and SRD Webbed fabric, with the SRD Crox Crayon on it... That's my "pasting strop"... I hav eboth because I prefer the Crox for the occasional touchup... it's easier on my face, but the Diamond (in my opinion) works better with honing (hit a barber hone/finishing stone [Naniwa 12k], then do some diamond paste, then go to linen, nylon, latigo, horsehide... That blade is killer.)

Do you mean the back of the red latigo, itself, or the back of the whole configuration, the Nylon Webbing?

Back of the latigo itself - not the webbing. The leather on the back of the red latigo doesn't look finished enough for daily stropping. Or am I wrong there?

Anyway, I wanted to know if anyone has had good results using the back-side of the latigo either for daily stropping or with CrOx.

I've heard of guys doing that. IIRC Ruprazor sells a strop with the back side treated with chrom-ox. I've not tried it myself though as I have separate surfaces for pastes.

(If anybody knows let me know). My question is concerning the 1.0 m diamond spray for a slightly duller blade. Is it best to apply it to a roughed leather or should I put it on a hard wool felt like everyone seems to be recommending for the .5?

First of all, I believe, but I may be wrong, that Lynn made his flatbed... However, again, I could be thinking of someone else...

Also, If you have a blade that the .5 doesn't do the trick for, I'd just go with a Barber hone or touchup stone, or a rehoning... But that's just me...

When you get the Modular Paddle, post pictures.. I want one!
