The less than $50 strop

There are a few out there. Two that come to mind are Dampier's in the classifieds and Proforma.

Do you know of others?

Post here other strops that can be had for less than $50.

Post here your review/ opinions of any strops already mentioned and/ or that you have used that are in this price range.

Looking to remain in the $40-$50 range.

The Vintage Blades 2" latigo strop is just under $50. Also the Straight razor designs 2" latigo. Only difference between these two seems to be the vintage blades one has D-rings.

As far as production strops go, my favorite is the Illinois 361.

It's a nice thick piece of leather for the money. A nice cloth component too.

I just got word from my better half that my freshly honed razors and a trial strop made it to my house today from Trey Dampier so I will give you a review about that in the next day or so....So far working with Trey has been easy and he is very fast with responding and had a very quick turn around time on honing. I will give you a better review in the future.

Awesome. In an ideal world I would collect numerous strops in this range and produce an article on my findings. For now, I shall rely on others' opinions.

If you are trying to perfect your stropping skills, try a nylon strop. I restored a razor for my son for Christmas and gave him a leather & nylon strop to learn on.

I have found the nylon is very forgiving, even to the point of stropping edge first with no damage to the strop. A fine weave nylon strop will give a nice shave ready finish.

2 inch Nylon strapping can be purchased for as little as .50 a foot so if you did cut it you’re out $1.50.

I agree with Glen, Also, i'd say to check out tony Miller's site from time to time he has a basic artisan starter strop (I think he calls it artisan light or something like that) that is pretty nice. You could always email him too if you are interested. He kind of posts items up as he makes them, so you might not see them on his website.

You really can't go wrong with glen's suggestions though

I spent under $100 shipped (I know $50) but I got a really nice Artisan with handles and D rings plus the "practice" strop. you gotta figure between the shipping and the practice strop it was almost $20 so I'm only $30 over your mark.... (slippery slope and all) but the Artisan is mor like "ART" nice as hell.
