I've met a couple of people lately who pronounce strop differently that I do. I was wondering how other people pronounce it and if I am correct or not.
I say: strawp or strahp - sounds like stop
Others say: stroop - sounds like poop
Who is right?

Hello, dnjrboy:
The correct pronunciation is "strop" as in "d-(rop)."

What's wrong with the Canadian pronunciation of "stroop"
well, maybe where your from beer is two syllables, but where I am its just one.
must be something in the AB air LOL
In Britain if someone is described as 'stroppy' it means they are awkward and bad tempered. Likewise, to be 'in a strop' means to be in a bad mood. It's probably true to say that more people associate the word strop with those descriptions of mood than anything used to sharpen a blade.
We also use the word strop to describe a lifting sling or webbing tow strap. We pronounce it to rhyme with stop.
It's amazing how many languages English is.
