Questions about making strop

Hello,

I finally got my first straight razor and now I need a strop, but those things end up really expensive when added shipping price to my country and taxes, especially when it would be my first strop and wouldn't last long until I learn how to use it properly. So I decided to make one myself, my father uses leather at work so I can get some cheaply, but I need to know how long, wide, thick, soft/hard (some other properties?) leather for the strop have to be, so I thought someone here could help me with that?

Sure, I'm from Lithuania, will add location to my profile. I've googled a bit some time ago and it seems that straight razors and related stuff aren't very popular here.

Go look at a Horse saddle maker in your area.
He's have probably a piece of leather what he uses to make a saddle belt.
cheap and it works.

I won't have a problem getting leather, as I said, my father uses it at work. Oh and there is no Horse saddle makers or anything like that in my area my city is not very big, about 110k people lives here atm.

What you need is a smooth leather surface.
Ask your father a piece of leather from 60 cm to 8 cm.
A couple of grommets and a rope then you have a super cheap strop.
This way you ready for less than $ 7
