If you're just learning to strop, I would probably go with the El Toro, inexpensive and functional. Most new straight razor users do tend to knick their strops in the beginning. As for comparisions, I don't have experience with either but as you continue with your journey into straight shaving, you will no doubt have many strops down the road. Which ever way you decide to go, I think you'll be happy.

The el toro is one of the best mid priced strops on the market, and makes for a great beginner strop.

Id say it depends on the price of replacement leather...
If you want a fabrick side (wich you probably do) and handles the difference is not a hole lot
Now wich one is best its up to someone else to decide but they will both work

FWIW, I started out with the SRD 3" red latigo because I didn't want to have to learn the X-stroke on top of everything else that was new about this--also I needed a 2d razor, and this was bundled with a 6/8 Dovo Special for their monthly strop and razor deal back in June. True, I did nick the strop, but only once, and I was able to repair it thanks to info in the forums here. Just my 2 cents . . .

Thanks for all the help guys. After thinking it all over I believe I may go the SRD route. I can't find anything wrong with the RR stop, just something is speaking to me about the SRD's at the moment. Who know's, I may end up with one of each before I find one I'll call perfect for me.
