I'd look for a stud. Use a screw in hook and put it about elbow height.
you can use an expansion wall anchor

it is for dry wall use only I believe.

Hardware store hooks as mentioned or you can google razor hook strops and get a hook designed for strops in brass usually sold with boat supplies: Razor Strop Hook hooking up to a stud is always the best option if possible. 'Don't know what kind of clip you have on the top of your strop, but the cheesy little ones that come on most will actually slip over the top of a door hinge pin. With a screwdriver or low value knife, tap the top of the pin up about 1/4-1/3" see if the clip will fit over the hinge pin head. If so, you're done. If not, you can probably remove the pin, slip it through the clip, and reinsert it into the hinge. Solid, out of the way. Cost effective.
I have an S Hook that fits on my towel rack/bar and my strop hangs from that
I simply have a short length of rope with a sliding loop that I attach to a doorhandle when I need to strop.
