If someone knows anything about this strop, please date it. It looks like it's had plenty of use over the years!
The end where you hold it has dog teeth marks.I have a belt that looks just like that.
Would "timber tanned" refer to the use of oak or similar bark in tanning?
I own a LOT of strops of various value, StrpAD a lot!! But quite frankly I can't place this strop from the photo, sorry that I can't help, but it looks very servicable and well broken in. Have fun with it!!
tinkersd of SRP
So here it is after a little work.I wish I had a before picture of the canvas side,it was black with a hard waxy grease.I cleaned it with soap and water and a soft brass brush. The chewed end I soaked in water then put it on an anvil and tapped it with a hammer to swell and close the tooth marks.

You put life back into her, nice job.
good job!! took your time and gave her new lease on life, enjoy all the shaves you'll have with her!!! [strops are basically female, right?]
tinkersd again!
Looks like you have done a fine job, congrats on a great save!
Nice renovation! That's a neat trick for closing the toothmarks; I'll probably use it myself some day. Enjoy your save.
