true.. under $60. i figure my first strop will probably get some nicks on it. would hate to buy a higher priced unit and get it cut.

I've only been shaving with a straight for five months but after scouring the internet I found a couple choices when I started. whippeddog.com sells rather cheap strops and used razors. The strop isn't that nice but it's great to learn on. U don't feel as bad about nicking it. My first strop looked like Wolverine and Freddy Krueger had a cage match with it. My second strop I bought was from ruprazor.com. It's called the filly strop and it is an excellent starter strop for an affordable price. The third option for u is go to Tony Miller's website and see if he has any starter strops available. While I don't own a Tony miller strop his strops are considered among the best.

    Good Luck

I second the filly from RupRazor. Very inexpensive but I love it. It has some crox on the flip side as well which is always nice. That's my vote!!

I would suggest the 3" SRD latigo with D rings, because it's quality and the least expensive of their strops. I just checked and the price is $59.99, with the nylon webbing for the back strop. You can also replace the leather component later if you cut it up badly, as many people new to stropping tend to do. SRD keeps replacement leather components in stock, as you will see on the website, so ordering them is easy. This strop has a heavy draw but that doesn't matter for your first strop, and you'll get used to whatever you have. Later on you can decide if you prefer a heavy, medium or light draw, handles instead of D-rings, or different leathers. I would not spend too much time debating this, as any quality strop will get the job done equally well. Much of the debate about draw and leather types comes down to a matter of personal preference. At this point the important thing is to get any good strop and learn the technique of stropping. Since you're likely to cut your first strop, it makes sense to keep the expense down.

the best bang for my buck was the board strops from classic edge. 3'' english bridal 25$. ive never nicked mine because i dont need to get my holding tecnique down. i think these things are just great, and they sure get the job done.
