I have one and love it. As far as paddles go, it's hard to beat...so many options...
I'd suggest that if you buy one you'll be glad you did. :D
Two good endorsements above. I have been using mine since they were released and am crazy about it. The options are many and cover all possible strop needs to include sprays/pastes, etc as you may wish.
uh....buy one of these.....soon.
Seriously, I have a LAMP (Lynn Abrams Modular Paddle.....l;)) and think it's a great addition to the straight shavers arsenal. You can use it for minor touch ups, after honing, etc. By changing pads you can use all types of stropping media and abrasive sprays, pastes, powders, etc.
Well I guess that settles it than I'll purchase the lynn Abrams paddle strip and I'll use the rest of my money on a scuttle
Tell y'all something..... I hope Lynn and Don live to be 100 and SRD stays in business forever ...... but that ain't happening. There may come a day when if you want an SRP modular paddle you'll have to get it in the classifieds or on the bay. Get 'em while you can. :hmmm:
I'll get one ordered tomorrow I can't wait and should I get chromium oxide
Is there anything else I should use I'll probly use the paddle strop after honing so I'm getting all the stuffing need
Has anyone used the scrub leather and what's it for just curious
I have my scrub leather with the chromium oxide, one hard wool felt with the .5 diamond and one clean hard wool felt. It serves me well to keep up the sharpness of the blades and like Jymmy said, tame a harsh edge after honing. Personally I don't use the leather. I find it not as good as my strop. Double O
Hi, I was looking at the LAMP myself as something to use after honing, also possibly using the premium leather for daily stropping. The kit comes with two pieces of hard wool felt, one piece each of scrub leather and premium leather, and one bottle of 0.5 micron diamond spray but there is of course the option to add additional diamond sprays and/or chromium oxide.
What would be the general recommendation for combination of materials/pastes/sprays and order of use? Would you go minimum or maximum or something in between? How many laps would you do for each step?
Minimum:
- wool felt with 0.5 micron DS
- wool felt, plain
- premium leather, plain
Maximum:
- wool felt with 1.0 micron DS
- wool felt with 0.5 micron DS
- scrub leather with 0.25 micron DS
- premium leather, plain
I use mine with CrOx on the felt pad to touch up razors. 15 laps. For travel I bring a plain felt pad and leather pad.
Mine came today and I have to say I was very impressed.
Even better than I imagined it would be, as others have mentioned its flexible (and fixable).
I think this would be a great choice for just about everyone.
I also acquired my lamp today as well and alittle minor problems but they were taken care of
