Yard Sale Find-Hoffritz

Hello,
Went yard sale hunting yesterday & found this Hoffritz strop. I guess it's a travel strop, about 18 inches. Good condition , just 1 minor scratch. It cost $3.00.

A little history about Hoffritz.


In 1867, John emigrated Hoffritz (1846-1933), a brother of the founder Nicholas Hoffritz from Schweinfurt, at the age of 23 years on the ship to America Allemannia. He had a son named Edwin John Hoffritz (1870-1942). His son, also named John Edwin (born in Brooklyn, NYC on 9/11/1895, died 4/9/1973), founded the company "Hoffritz for Cutlery."

The first retail stores opened in the early 30's, after the depression. The start was made about six stores in New York City, who earned their reputation with Solingen cutlery such as kitchen and pocket knives, hair scissors and razors, etc., housewares and Swiss Army knives.

A few years before his death, he sold the company and the new owners have opened many stores across USA. Again, the company was sold, the name Hoffritz remained however.

In the retail recession of the 80s began to adopt more favorable to cutlery from around the world to the range, despite or even why they lost market share.

In the nineties, you had to file for bankruptcy, and the shops were all but a few, on a private basis from continuing operations, all closed. It survived only the brand name "Hoffritz Cutlery", now used for good household items, produced in many countries around the world.

It is also said that many of their brushes are made by Rooney and Simpson.
