Problem with Star Shaving

I purchased a strop and brush from their website on the 17th of this month, received an email from a bot stating my order was received and one that my payment was accepted through paypal. Since then I haven't received any communication from the store; nothing regarding a shipment, or a delay, or even a "thank you, we'll let you know when it ships." I tried emailing them numerous times using their site's fill-in page, the email address associated with my order fulfillment, and the email address on my paypal receipt. I've called the phone number listed on their website 3 separate times, getting no answer the first two and having someone answer today stating that I had the wrong number. I'm really starting to wonder about this store, and if I need to take action through paypal or my credit card company. However, I've seen posts here and on other forums about people placing orders through them and getting their items. I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar experience dealing with them, or if anyone has better contact information for them, or just some advice in general.

I don't know how big an operation it is or if it's a one man show but plenty have ordered from them with no issues. It could be some personal issue with the owner. Just be mindful of the time period with paypal to start the dispute process. Not counting ordering date it's 9 days. I'd give them some more time though the phone issue is disturbing.

I just ordered from star and noticed that certain strops are delayed. The notice is on their shop website when you pull up the item you want to purchase. I ordered some replacement leather on 6/21 and expect them to ship early July.

I have never had to call them but I would suggest just being patient. They are a small operation, maybe two people!

I'd double check the phone # and try again during their posted working hours. Remotely possible you had the wrong # ?

I think you're correct in that it is a one-man operation. I also know Ron Lucas had surgery last year. Probably hard to keep up with demand with his low prices.

As everyone has said, hopefully everyone is well. I've ordered numerous strops paddles slurry soaps and bench strops and never had an issue. Relatively fast and I'm satisfied doing business with them.

I've orderd a number of iteams from SS not only for my self but as gifts for friends and family that I've gotten into SRS, I'm talking laptop boards,strops,brushes etc.. I only ever get a email showing what I've purcheced. Sometimes it's at my door in a week others have been a couple weeks.

Unfortunately, no. I copied the number from the page on my smartphone and just pasted it into the call.

Something is going on there, I emailed an inquiry to them on there website "contact us" link and the first time they did not respond to me. I sent the same inquiry a second time and it took them over a week to get back to me. When I initially ordered from them several months ago the service was very speedy.

I just ordered some stuff from them 2 weeks ago and it arrived in a reasonable time.

I sent they a couple of thime a email for some info of stuff they selling. Never,but never get a awnser from them.
They have some interesting stuf for a good price,but if i dont get a awnser on mails i dont buy! In the past i have order some stuf and it was quickly on my place, idem whit mails.

So yes i think there is somthing is wrong over there.

Hearing all if this is disappointing. I have always been more than happy with their service. Hopefully things all work out for the better.

Ive ordered from them twice. First round was very quick, no issues. Second time was quite a delay. I believe it is pretty much a one-man operation and he was ill for some time. A family member took over to make sure the orders were fulfilled. I emailed asking for more information on the status of my order, it took a while for them to get back but they did respond.

I would give them some more time but email/call on a weekly basis. Keep an eye on the paypal dispute deadline and once you're within that final week I would open up a case.

Just to throw my 2/100'ths of a dollar in: I placed my first order earlier this year (end of April, first part of May). Got the automated payment email immediately. Took a full week before they sent the shipping email. Order arrived two or three days later. I'm happy enough that I'm about to place another order.

They're not Amazon, so I don't expect that level of service. Remember how long it used to take to get an order from the Sears catalog?

Just wanted to update and let everyone know my order shipped on 7/6. I purchased some items that were not in stock so total wait was about 16 days.

Glad I ordered before reading this. First seen them on ebay and sent message, no answer figured glitch, ordered from there site, a brush and Big Daddy strop, everything took about a week no problem. Got order last week and very happy with my stuff. I do know from their site it's 3 retired fellas that use str8s and stuff. The quality looks great on the strop which is all USA made which is why I went with them. I think they do pretty good for 3 retired fellas.

These things usually work themselves out in the end.

Not sure how to update my original post, but I received my items today after getting a shipment notification last week. The strop and brush are phenomenal. I can't wait to use them. If this thread and the responses are any indication, you'll get great products from star shaving, but you won't know anything about it until right before you receive them

I bought from there in the past... Felt table top strops. Good product and don't remember a problem with the delivery.
Think they're out of Oklahoma and may have had storm problems? Just a thought.

Thanks for the update MetroMedic, I received my items today as well! I have the big daddy strop and needed to break it in using a felt deep massage every time I shave for about 1.5 months. Read about breaking in your strop because the shaves improve as the leather becomes more supple.

Thanks Martin for that article along with many others you have posted. My shaves have improved as a direct result of reading, testing and applying the shaving concepts found in those old magazines!

Man, this is a shame. I want one of their paddle strops with bridle leather one side and felt on the other (odd that I don't see this config offered anywhere...seems like a no-brainer), but I don't think I'm ever going to hear back from them re: my request for a quote.

I had a problem with ordering a razor from Star Shaving. I ordered some Gold Dollars. Within minutes, wanted to add to the order so I wouldn't get charged extra shipping for 1 extra item. It was too late but they said they would credit me shipping on my next order. No problem. Come next order, no credit and one of the razors was defective from the first order. I just wanted exchange, it was $15. I've tried at least 6 times emailing them with NO response. I would not recommend ordering from them. Poor customer service and obviously not a man of his word.

I ordered a Big Daddy strop, Gentleman Bill's bay rum soap, and a wood soap bowl and everything arrived quickly with no issues. It was one of the best online purchase experiences I've had thus far. So it's disappointing to hear this is happening. I hope all is well with the owner.

My first order with Star Shaving was for a FS shaving brush through ebay. The brush shed a lot and I requested a replacement. The response seemed friendly but wasn't helpful. He said he didn't have any in that color at the moment (black). After several emails, he never replaced the brush or had further comment.

Since then I ordered some bench top strops and some pastes. It took quite a while and several emails before I received the order, but I felt I'd gotten a good deal. At the time, he said he's had several back surgeries and his daughter was trying to handle the orders by making the strops herself. This was last year. I don't know what's happened since.

The main problem as I see it is no communication! The items I recieved are great so far, the strop is excellent and will probably out live me, the brush is pretty good seeing as it only cost me $20. The strops they make themselves, and sell things for others. My order arrived withing 4 days by USPS so I'm happy with delivery, not if they would answer emails they would be one of the better suppliers out there. JMO

Yea I bought my strop from them over last winter.
That might have ben before people like the wrangerstar guy posted a chip on you tube how great his strops
are and at a amazing price.
Yea his low prices might make him sell a lot.

I just ordered the 3.25 in strop from them 2 weeks ago (7/21). I got the strop last thursday I believe and it is an absolute BEAST!! It dwarfs my old strop and the chestnut bridle leather feels amazing! I am very happy with my purchase, but I also did not need to communicate with them at all.

Go to the post, and bottom left (i think) there is an edit option, might be nice to edit it a bit, a lot of people may not read this far into the thread, but glad your stuff arrived.

Just ordered a strop last week and had the same issue. Emailed with the question and they replied immediately. I ordered and confirmed last Monday and they are shipping out this Tuesday. I will be sure to order well in advance for this company, if I order from them again.
