Thanked: 0best way to repair a scale
Hello I have a razor razor with a celluloid faux tortoise shell scales the scales are in very good shape with no wear or issues minus a small crack in one scale near the tang. This being said I want to save the scale and prevent the crack from getting worse and the piece from falling off. Whats the best way to do this and make it look as close to natural as possible? I dont want a super obvious glued spot.. thanks for any help guys - john

Thanked: 636Not being able to see the problem it is hard to say. I have on small cracks used super glue and sanded and polishied to make the repair. I place the nozel of the glue over the crack and try to force the glue in. Sometimes you may need to take the scales off and repin after the fix. Don't know if this is the correct method but it works for me. Good luck

The problem with cyanoacrylate glues is that they are not real strong.

Thanked: 2027The problem with repairing cell scales is, the crack needs to be super clean.I find an ultrasonic and simple green do's a fine job.
Would never attempt to repair a bad crack on a pivot (minor? Maybe)
Repaired one on cell the other day (wedge end) used acetone to melt the cell and sort of weld it back together,no glues that I have tried have worked well.

Acetone melts it? Interesting as it also "welds" polystyrene which I am most familiar with.
Glues like Gorilla Glue are extremely strong but they expand when drying so I am not sure how it would work on scales as I have not tried it.My son is a Drill Instructor in the United States Marine Corps at Parris Island, SC

Thanked: 1371It's going to be tough to repair that and have it be strong enough to tighten the pin.
If it were mine, I'd be putting new scales on it.
