Where to buy scales?
Been a long time since I've been on here. Years ago when I first got started I got some scales and pin etc to put together one of my razors. I've since acquired 2 razors in need of scales, but can't remember a good source for scales and pins. I think the ones I got before were Dovo brand, ebony. I know custom ones are an option, but need to keep cost reasonable.
Anyone know a good source for scales and pins?
Thanks!

Thanked: 1Newbie here my first post, but I found a website www.handletheze.com that sells blanks for a variety of knives. Including 1/8x1x6 specifically for making straight razor scales. I have no affiliation with that sight, but will say that for $9.99 shipping included, I got a pair of book matched blanks of flame red box elder wood. I am reasonably skilled with my hands and don't think it will be too hard to turn these into some pretty cool looking scales.

Thanked: 40If you are looking to make scales out of exotic hardwood, Rockler Woodwoorking (Woodworking Tools Supplies Hardware Plans Finishing - Rockler.com) is a great place to look. They have good prices on 1/18 inch small strips that can be used to make 2 sets of scales.

I've bought from Gayla before, and you must be prepared (in my opinion) to put some work into these scales.
They're cheap, they're good, but lotsa work.
Watch out for warping as well, 'specially with the softer woods.
Buy a whole bunch of different varieties too, postage is cheaperLast edited by bongo; 01-28-2014 at 01:52 PM.
