Making wooden scales
I have sawn one of my pieces of meranti wood into 2 pieces that are close enough to the correct thickness.
Once the thickness is correct, would it make sense to drill the pin holes first and place the 2 pieces on top of each other?
That way I could rough-shape them on a belt sander and being sure of the fact that they would remain each others mirror image.
Just a thought...
:hmmm:
-
try using a very thin coat of contact adhesive, or contact adhesive with a sheet of paper inbetween (to allow later seperation)
Pinning at this stage is a bad idea as you may need to move the hinge pin to suit the position of the blade.

double side scotch tape works well

When the scales are roughly the right shape I drill the holes for the pins and cut a short length of the pinning material, push it through to keep the two pieces together.
