Making wooden scales
I have sawn one of my pieces of meranti wood into 2 pieces that are close enough to the correct thickness.
Once the thickness is correct, would it make sense to drill the pin holes first and place the 2 pieces on top of each other?
That way I could rough-shape them on a belt sander and being sure of the fact that they would remain each others mirror image.
Just a thought...

try using a very thin coat of contact adhesive, or contact adhesive with a sheet of paper inbetween (to allow later seperation)
Pinning at this stage is a bad idea as you may need to move the hinge pin to suit the position of the blade.

When the scales are roughly the right shape I drill the holes for the pins and cut a short length of the pinning material, push it through to keep the two pieces together.
