Collecting dust

I've been building a workshop for restoring razors--buffer, belt sander, drill press, and scroll saw. I'm using an open area in a laundry room that doubles as a storage area for books and tools. It's a semi-finished room, with exposed floor joists from the room above. Not much space to work with laterally, but nine-feet of space from floor to ceiling. Containing dust is an issue. I built roll-down walls of polyethylene for the buffing area. For collecting dust, I built two platforms suspended from the floor joists. One platform holds a 20-inch square fan with a dust filter taped to the back. The other platform holds a dust collector, with hoses running down to the buffer and the belt sander:









Taking a tip from Tony at Taylor's1000, I built a box to go behind the buffer. The hose from the dust collector goes into the box:






The box has a wooden frame. The walls are heavy cardboard. Duct tape seals the cardboard and tightens the whole construction.

I think I'm done! Been working on the workshop for three months--starting with building a work table and storage shelves, then the polyethylene buffing tent, then moving shelves to make space for the belt sander, drill press, and scroll saw, and last the platforms for dust collection . Finally, now, I think I can actually use some of this equipment to work on razors. Whoopee!
