Ok, I'm not trying to be mean to this ebay seller i have no grievance against them, but the scales i received from them were, misshaped, bowed, and poorly formed. They did send me another set, but they were not much better.
They are what they are, but these scales are what drove me to just shape my own, sense i would have more control over the final product.
Yeah I understand what you mean. They do require some work. But mine haven't been warped. I don't have anyway to cut out my own but I do have bit to shape it. You can see what they looked like when I unboxed them.
i used the lapping plate idea, using two pieces of stone benchtop samples.
its has taken about a 30-40min per pair to get them to the thickness i am after. its hard work.
the scales and sandpaper are attached with double sided tape. sandpaper is 80grit

i am struggling with removing the tape off the scales themselves. just using metho and a razor blade.
i measured the first set but from then on i just used the one scale as a baseline and all the rest match up to that one
progress is a great thing!
I use acetone and it gets the double sided tape glue off easy as
Get it from Bunnings in 1L for about $10 think is was
Like the set up looks to be progressing along well
think......Finger nail polish remover!!!!
Bone dust and acetone! Whooooboy! Dooey?? You OK, Mate? Halloooo? :D
Good on yer!
For getting the scales apart when taped, I often use Naptha, as in cigarette lighter fluid. Denatured alcohol works for me also. Start the split at one end with a razor blade and then widen it with a screwdriver till they are apart.
