16 will you give you more time for clamping for sure. Key to acrylic is smooth joints on clear or transparent colors. There are some good instructions on you tube for gluing acrylic.
My first attempts were a disaster so don't worry if at first you don't succeed.:gl:

i have been meaning to do this for a while. I finally broke down and ordered the supplies and should be in soon. i am looking forward to trying to come up with a good process "I Hope" now while waiting for the supplies i am going to try to figure out a good clamping system.

Hate to be the negative voice here but the one razor that came to me recently with broken scales was exactly the pattern on that web page op linked. It was extrememly easy to break at the joins.
You know there is a guy in here uhhh Shotonn,or shaptin,,,oh yeah sharptonn. Anyway he has been practicing this and is getting pretty good at it. I would ask him. Don't tell him I sent ya or he will charge double for the advice :<0)

* what blade those broken scale were supposed to protect ?
* what was the actual condition of the blade when the razor came to you ?
* why you ended up with that particular razor ?
* what kind of conclusions you drew about the blade ?
