    Default W&B frameback spine removal

Anyone have experience removing the spine from a Wade & Butcher frameback? I'm guessing it is soft soldered.

You are probably right, but I have never removed one. Try it, just watch your heat or you could ruin it.

Never on a w&b but have on Swedish Anton bergs. They just slid off with a good steady pressure from heel to toe. I onle removed it for a good cleaning. Why do you want to remove it? Also, pictures would be nice.

Many pictures please, especially after it's apart. Good luck and be careful !

Not much to show really. It was in fact soft soldered. Brass vise jaws helped as a heat sink. Didn't have to use much heat really. Just played the flame over the spine and I could see the solder start to flow at the toe. I used the point of a scribe to get under the toe end of the spine and lift it up some. Then pulled it forward with needle nose pliers. I'll use epoxy to put it back together. I've started to buff the blade. Most of the pits are gone. I'm not going to worry what is under the spine.

Careful not to take too much off spine or frame back will be too lose.

I too like the idea of using epoxy too, will help it to stay watertight and will hold just fine. Thanks for sharing as you have educated me on this one.
