Thread: Wade and butcher celebrated pin replacement

Hi, I'm needing to repin my wade and butcher. I found some brass 3/32 brass rod
I have several dovos and the pins are smaller. Does anyone know if the 3/32 will work or would it be loose at the pivot? Thanks

Most of us use 1/16 rod in brass or nickle silver. If it fits through the pivot hole in the tang and straight you should be good to go. You have washers (inside and out) that big ? Kinda hard to drill holes in washers that small but not impossible.

Many of the old Sheffields have large or oblong pivot holes. There are a few ways to address it. You can go with the oversized pin, the standard size pin is 1/16". You can put a sleeve in the hole or you can fill the hole with JB Weld or similar an then re drill the hole at 1/16" in the filler, or you can just leave it. i appreciate the help ill try to find some 1/16. the blade is kind of loose anyway i just thought the 3/32 did not sound right, thank you for the links ill check it out. Like the jb weld idea.

If you have a welding shop nearby, get a stick of 1/16th brass brazing rod. It'l be about 3 feet long for a buck or two.

Most hobby shops and good, old hardware stores carry 1/16 brass and copper rod.

Most of us order on line from Knife maker suppliers, Texas Knife is who I usually buy rod from.

The size of the hole in the pivot does not matter as much as you would think. I used to sleeve or fill and drill them, now unless they are huge, I just pin them normal, once tight they works just fine.
