I think you could use flat washers slightly domed also if you cant reclaim them as they are a fairly flat washer

A small ball pein hammer and a block of hardwood endgrain up will do that job. Hit the ball pein hammer with another hammer to dish the washer below it.
I often used parts of this set to make whatever washers I wanted:

One of your cheapo stores should also carry them.

Thanks gents. My first goal is to remove the scales by drilling out, without damaging the original collars. As already stated though, it's good to have a plan B. Spares would be good to have. Suppose if I ruin the originals, I'll have to get creative!
