So I have drug another of my favorite Sheffields to the shop to do something with the pivot and closure.
Pin-hole was HUGE and had a floating bushing and stainless spacers, a big no-no I have discovered.

I usually use 1/8 pop-rivets, but this hole took a 3/16 one. A bit too long, but what the hay. I then took the mandrel from the pop rivet, which was also aluminum, and peened it into the hole.

I decided to lower the heel and shove it forward in the scales as they are pretty large. Drilled a 1/16 hole top-back and used a pin-vise/1/16 bit to saw back and forth and get some slop going so the pin would go where it wanted.
A piece of rod inserted makes certain up and down, back and forth are possible.

The test fit showed it closing center now as the tang could set the center. Went a tad overboard shoving it forward as the tip hit the wedge slightly. A few pulls of the holy hacksaw blade did the trick. This one had been pinned using some little brass grommets. Cheap by the jillion, but a little sloppy with 1/16 rod, so some time and care later, got it pinned. Worked out good. Should have used new collars instead of reusing the old ones as they came up a bit more smushed than I care for, but hey! It's tight and will stay at home anyway. Light touchup on Escher, a good stropping, all set for a few more years.

When someone posts a pic, especially a shop or bench type pic, I always scan the background to see what is there...kind of voyeuristic I guess. Anyway...digging your hacksaw blade handle, it looks like something I can afford!

Yeah, half a hacksaw blade with a fuel-hose handle. The side teeth have been ground down so I ca get right up against the scale without sawing on it. Teeth are facing backward so it is a 'pull' saw.Quote:
