I hose down every razor I buy with WD40, then soak the corner of a paper towel fold it over a coffee stir stick with the end clipped off straight with a pair of side cutters and remove all the soap scum from between the scales. WD40 will melt all that crud without a lot of scraping of the scales, never had a problem with Celluloid, heat is the issue with celluloid.

Then clean the blade with a piece of 000 steel wool sprayed with WD40. You can get 90 percent of the crud off by doing just that.

Simple green on a paper towel get all the WD40 off. I also mute the edge by lightly dragging a 1K Diamond File over the entire edge. You are going to hone it anyway, so at least make it a bit safer while you are working on it.

Now at least you can see what need to be done next.

Okay...well after listening to some of you who are far more experienced than I, I decided to continue on a few more levels up. I lightly sanded the blade with some 1000 grit sandpaper and the finished with 2000 grit. Lastly, I wiped down again with more automotive metal polish.

Here it is next to my Thiers Issard I just started a restore on

Here is the final shot. I have a LOT to learn about pinning, but this literally was my first shot knowing the end product was gonna be a tad rough. The scales are the original. I just sanded with 2000 grit and polished w plastic polish

Nice work buddy. Careful of that sanding zen bug. you get in the zone and days will pass without you noticing :<0)
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
