Thanked: 0Must it be MAAS?
Afternoon All!
Recently, I picked up two used razors that are now in need of some gentle caring. They both have some dark spots and a little rust. Can I use the silver polish I have at home or does MAAS have some qualities I'm not aware of?
Thanks.
G.

MAAS, Flitz and Simichrome (if I got the spelling right?) are the brand names I think I've seen used most often when it comes to polishing steel. I think the silver polish has chemicals in it to remove silver oxide, and I don't think it necessarily is effective on iron oxide, which is what you'd get on steel. I don't know if the chemicals in silver or brass polish can harm the steel, though. You could always try it on the tang first and see if it does anything.

Thanked: 5silver polish may get the job done, but think of MAAS as metal polish on steroids.
i think MAAS also has jewelers rouge in it and is actually slightly abbrasive which really helps cut through the tough stuff and leaving a nice shine.
if you plan on doing more polishing it may be worthwhile to pick up some MAAS anyways

Thanked: 0M advice is get Maas, or one of the other products listed by the other guys in this thread.
To put the advice in context, I am based in the UK and initially tried to use Goddard's Silver Polish and Silvo - two silver polishes widely available here. Neither product seemed to make significant in roads to removing the tarnish on my razors. (Perhaps the Iron Oxide theory explains it.)
Anyway, suffice to say that Maas was like a miracle treatment compared to the other products. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Many US sites are willing to ship Maas. In the UK, Lakeland sell it. You won't need much. Hope this helps
