Thread: Spare parts for adjustable de

Just wondering if anyone knew of somewhere to buy spare parts for a Gillette slim. Brother has managed to break his and I need to get a spring for the adjuster dial to fix it. Cheers for any info.

Buy a beater from the Bay, you can often get the black handled Super Adjustable cheap, ($5-10), they are “Slims” with anodized aluminum handles or plastic heads, parts will interchange.

I once saw where a guy made a spring, I think from a paper clip. I have always have thought a Bobbie Pin would make a nice spring. It does not have to have that much tension to work.

Never heard of anyone selling parts.

Have had a look at the bay but was nothing cheap although didn't realize that the super was usable so will have another look. Cheers

It was probably a stock spring, there may be a distributor that side of the pond that will have it.

It is not a spiral or coiled spring, it is a flat spring of a custom design, with a special bend in it to fit in the slot of the adjuster and hold the circular cam knob in place and fits in the slot of the indicator as the adjuster is rotated.

It is unique to Gillette.

The 2 flat springs in the photo are the springs, don’t know why there are 2 in the photo, you just need one.

The spring is also listed as, item 64 and 70 in the diagram, where it is referred to in the description as reference points 64 and 70.

The Diagram is for the Fat Boy but the springs are similar and work on the same principals with similar, but different style of components.

The Fat Boy and Slim spring are different lengths, but work the same way.

As shown it should be easy to fabricate one from a thin piece of metal like a Bobby pin. I think the originals are made of or are brass plated, painted or anodized.

I have never made one, but perhaps I will give it a try.

Tried already with a bobby pin but is way thicker. I have brass shim stock though so ghat could be a option so will have a look. Looked again on the bay a cheap ones are running about 25 with postage. Think there is far more just like straight razors on the US bay but often they don't post outside the US so they are there I just don't have access to them.
