Will soaking carved/pressed horn scales in neatsfoot oil present any dangers/concerns for the pressing/carving?
I never had a problem. Just keep an eye on it. If you don't want to let them soak keep rubbing in small amounts with your finger.

I just tossed a set in the oil bath on Sat morning, read this and went and pulled them out..
I sanded them with 220 g before dunking them to let the oil penetrate more
90% of the warping that was present is gone now the horn is very smooth which tells me that the horn swelled a bit and got rid of the 220 g marks already :)
I have left them for a full week without ill effects, after that you are in uncharted territory IME :)
